Terms of Use & End-User License Agreement

⚠ Read before using

PDFJOB is an audit and risk-reduction tool, not a certification system. It detects the most common structural anomalies in PDF files and substantially reduces the probability of undetected errors reaching production — it does not guarantee their elimination.

The final decision to approve a file for print always rests with the human operator.

1

Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using PDFJOB (the "Software"), whether as the Community Edition (free) or under a paid Pro Server or Site License, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use and End-User License Agreement ("Agreement"). If you do not agree, do not use the Software.

2

License Grant

Community Edition — Free

Kikuchi Software Ltda. grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, royalty-free license to use the Community Edition binary for commercial and non-commercial purposes, subject to the limitations set out in the Software (maximum 10 pages per comparison, maximum 150 DPI).

Pro Server & Site License — Paid

Upon payment and issuance of a valid machine-bound license file, Kikuchi Software Ltda. grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Software on the server(s) specified in the license, for the duration of the annual subscription. A Site License covers all servers and operator workstations within the same physical premises or primary company registration.

What PDFJOB Is — and Is Not

PDFJOB is a detection radar, not an autopilot. It compares two PDF files at the pixel level and reports detected visual differences. It is designed to catch the most common categories of error — wrong file version, missing pages, shifted content, altered text.

PDFJOB does not:

  • Guarantee detection of every possible defect in a PDF file
  • Validate colour profiles, ICC-colour accuracy, or print-specific technical standards (ISO 12647, PDF/X, etc.)
  • Assess font licensing compliance, trapping, overprints, or transparency flattening
  • Replace pre-press preflight tools such as Acrobat Preflight, Enfocus PitStop, or Callas pdfToolbox
  • Constitute approval or certification of any file for print production

The NEEDS_REVIEW status

A NEEDS_REVIEW or WARNING exit code means the Software encountered a structural anomaly it cannot analyse with certainty. This is intentional: the Software errs toward false positives (flagging something that may be fine) rather than false negatives (silently passing something defective). When uncertain, it alerts the operator rather than making an autonomous decision.

4

The Operator's Responsibility

The human operator — whether a publisher's art director, a prepress analyst, or an IT administrator configuring an automated pipeline — is the final and sole decision-maker in the file approval workflow. PDFJOB's output is a tool to assist that decision, never to replace it.

The operator is responsible for:

  • Reviewing any file flagged with a WARNING or NEEDS_REVIEW status before proceeding
  • Configuring comparison thresholds (-t, -dpi, -anti-alias-blur) appropriately for their production environment
  • Maintaining qualified human oversight of any automated hotfolder pipeline
  • Any print or manufacturing decision made downstream of PDFJOB's output
5

Software Provided "AS IS"

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. KIKUCHI SOFTWARE LTDA. DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SOFTWARE WILL BE ERROR-FREE, THAT DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED, OR THAT THE SOFTWARE WILL DETECT ALL ANOMALIES IN ANY PDF FILE.

6

Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, KIKUCHI SOFTWARE LTDA. SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY COST OF REPRINTING, RE-PLATING, LOSS OF BUSINESS, REVENUE, DATA, OR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THE SOFTWARE.

Paid Licenses

Total cumulative liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for the Software license in the 12 months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim.

Community Edition

As the Community Edition is provided free of charge, total liability is zero (US$ 0.00).

7

Prohibited Uses

Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the Software

Circumvent the machine-binding license system or share a license file across unlicensed machines

Redistribute or resell the Software or license files without prior written consent

Process third-party files without appropriate authorisation from the file owner

8

License File and Machine Binding

Pro and Site license files are cryptographically signed with Ed25519 and bound to specific machine identifiers. Each license file is non-transferable to a different machine unless a replacement is issued by Kikuchi Software Ltda.

Sharing, duplicating, or modifying a license file constitutes a material breach of this Agreement and entitles Kikuchi Software Ltda. to terminate the license immediately without refund.

9

Term and Termination

Paid licenses are valid for the subscription period specified at purchase (typically 12 months) and must be renewed to continue use. Kikuchi Software Ltda. may terminate this Agreement immediately upon written notice if you materially breach any provision.

Upon termination, you must cease all use and destroy all copies of the Software and license files in your possession.

10

Governing Law

This Agreement is governed by the laws of Brazil (Lei nº 9.609/98 — Software Law; Lei nº 10.406/02 — Civil Code). Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of the city of São Paulo, Brazil.

11

Changes to These Terms

Kikuchi Software Ltda. reserves the right to modify these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Software after notice of changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. The date of the most recent revision is displayed at the top of this page.
